Professional Awards

 Henry Hobson Richardson Award

Peter T. Flynn, AIA

Peter Flynn, AIA, is the Design Principal at Flynn Battaglia Architects, responsible for design direction of all the firm’s projects, and its marketing and public relations activities.  Mr. Flynn’s design approach emphasizes an open process engaging the client and user in the development of a design vision and concept which maximizes opportunity, aesthetics, and accountability.

In 40 years of professional practice, Mr. Flynn has provided leadership capitalizing on his expertise in planning, design, and preservation.  He has been involved in a wide variety of project types with concentration in work for public institutions and community organizations. He has in-depth knowledge of planning and development as well as research, feasibility studies, historic structures reports and planning.

Flynn received his Bachelors from Cornell and is a graduate of the University at Buffalo with a Master of Architecture and Harvard Graduate School of Design in Historic Preservation.

The Henry Hobson Richardson Award recognizes AIA members licensed in NYS and practicing in the private sector who have made a significant contribution to the quality of NYS public architecture and who have established a portfolio of accomplishments.

Nelson Aldrich Rockefeller Award

Robert Eisenstat, AIA

Robert Eisenstat, AIA, is the Chief Architect of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PA).  The PA is a unique public agency with a mission of providing safe and efficient movement of people and goods to serve the economic development of the region.

As Chief Architect, Robert directs the 50-person Architectural, Landscape Architecture, and Graphic Design Unit within the Agency’s 600-person Engineering Department, responsible for the design of projects in the PA Capital Program.  He is responsible for a quality-based call-in program that includes Architects, Landscape Architects, and multiple specialty consultants.

Robert has made significant contributions to the Agency’s 10-year, $27.6 billion Capital Plan quality of design not only through his direct efforts, but also through his advocacy efforts within the PA for those projects designed by others.  He has served on selection committees and provided input to requests for proposals, most recently, the Port Authority Bus Terminal International Design Competition.

Robert graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1976.  He has been in his role as co-chair of the AIA New York Chapter Transportation and Infrastructure Committee since 2007, raising public and professional awareness of this archetype, and has served to promote innovative transportation policies in New York City and the region.   He co-authored the transportation and infrastructure content of the AIANY Chapter publication, The Post-Sandy Initiative, and presented at the AIA National Convention regarding the professional response to PlaNYC.

The Nelson Rockefeller Award recognizes licensed architects employed in the public sector in New York State whose work on projects within their jurisdiction has furthered the cause of design excellence in public architecture.
