Crushing the Code NYS: Commercial Envelope

In this session, students will examine what makes a building envelope code compliant under the 2020 ECCCNYS commercial provisions. 

This training is recommended for architects, engineers, code enforcement officials, contractors, building owners and operators and students working towards a career in the building industry. 

By the end of this 2.5 hour training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how to identify the building thermal envelope and the different components that impact code compliance. 
  • Recognize the importance of the air barrier and the latest industry strategies to create a tight building envelope for improved efficiency and occupant comfort. 
  • Describe the ways that heat flows through the building envelope and learn how to find or calculate the needed thermal resistance for code compliance. 
  • Explain code criteria that limits energy losses from windows.

Klepper, Hahn & Hyatt is a multi-disciplinary design firm that specializes in structural engineering, landscape architecture, and building envelope systems. Jim is a certified Professional Engineer, LEED AP, and is certified by the Structural Engineering Certification Board. Jim has published and presented many times concerning green building, and previously taught 25+ Conquering the Code courses with Urban Green Council.
