NYC Helps Businesses Access Contract Opportunities

Saying Goodbye to Members, Colleagues, Staff and Friends

As my contract expires the end of this year, and after 29 years of service to AIANYS and AIA, in times of change, challenge, opportunity, success and yes, even fun, it’s time to say goodbye and thanks to the members, CACE colleagues, other association executives and the many friends I worked with on behalf of the AIA at the local, state and national levels and on behalf of the design and construction industry. I’ve valued the many professional relationships and the personal friendships we’ve had for so many years, many of whom will continue to be good friends.

I also thank AIANYS and AIA for its good wishes and their acknowledgement of my years of dedicated service and the accomplishments achieved during my time as Executive Director, then EVP/CEO. Yes, it’s bittersweet to be departing and sad, too, to part with so many talented, dedicated colleagues that I have worked with on so many issues affecting the profession and practice of architecture. It’s been a pleasure and honor to serve this profession and to have helped grow the AIANYS from an organization of 1,900 members and an $85,000 budget in 1978 to an organization which proudly boasts 6,500 members and a $1.1 million budget for 2007 plus the numerous achievements over the years. We accomplished the growth and successes working together, all of us. And equally important, the growth and successes over the past 29 years could never have been accomplished without the wonderful staff we've had. I thank all of them, past and present, for all they've done on behalf of AIANYS and its members. AIANYS' growth and successes are theirs, too.

I wish the members, staff, my CACE colleagues, the organization and my successor the very best as AIANYS begins another 75 years of service to its members and to all architects in New York State.

Barbara J. Rodriguez, Hon.AIA
Executive Vice President/CEO

Farrell has extensive experience in both association management and legislative advocacy. A graduate of Fordham University, he holds a Masters in Public Administration from the Graduate School of Public Affairs, State University of New York at Albany. He spent twenty years as Executive Director of the New York State Conference of Mayors, after working with the New York State Assembly Ways and Means Committee where he attained the position of deputy budget director. Prior to that, he was executive director of community development for the City of Cohoes, New York.

During his career, Farrell has devoted himself to numerous organizations and has been recognized for his expertise and dedication. He has served on the Board of Directors for the State Academy for Public Administration and the National League of Cities, the Board of Trustees for the Center for Governmental Research, Governor Cuomo’s Blue Ribbon Commission on the Consolidation of Local Governments, the Comptroller’s Advisory Council for the New York State Retirement System, and New York’s Managed Health Care Labor Management Committee, among others. He received the Outstanding Local Government Administrator Award from the American Society for Public Administration.

He resides in Latham, NY, with his wife Helen, and their son, Eddie.

I urge all of us to welcome and show our support to Ed as he travels throughout New York State to meet our members and hear our views on the topics of greatest concern to us. We wish him a long and successful tenure as our new executive director.
