Why Be Part of Architects In Albany Lobby Day?
You can help influence the many decisions lawmakers make every year that affect the practice and profession of architecture.
How? Several easy ways:
1. Let your state Senator and Assemblyperson know what the AIANYS legislative issues are this session.
2. Join your colleagues in Albany on April 15th, Architects In Albany Lobby Day. If you can't participate in Lobby Day in Albany , you can participate in the lobbying process using the other steps outlined here.
3. Follow up Architects In Albany Lobby Day with a thank you note to those you visited, asking them again for their support, and asking them to contact you or Edward Farrell, Executive Director, AIANYS (518/449-3334 or efarrell@aianys.org) if they have any questions.
4. Work with your chapter leadership to set up local grassroots lobby visits to key legislators.
5. Respond to AIANYS' legislative alerts as quickly as you can. E-mail, call or write immediately to your Senator or Assemblyperson and any others AIANYS suggests you contact. Legislators respond to public opinion, especially when fueled by voters.
6. Give to the New York State Architects Political Action Committee (NYSAPAC). Combining the financial resources of all the architects in the state, NYSAPAC contributions have a great impact for the profession. Contributions to campaign fund-raisers open legislative doors to AIANYS' lobbyists. Open doors allow us to come face-to-face with the lawmakers, explaining our position, countering objections, strengthening their support. NYSAPAC enables architects to be a viable political force in New York State.
Your participation in the annual Architects In Albany Lobby Day is the voice of the grassroots membership-YOU-helping your professional organization, AIA New York State , make a difference in the lawmaking process for our members and all architects in this state. We have had many legislative successes, our government affairs program is first and foremost protect the public in the built environment as well as foster a climate conducive to good architectural practice.
Attached is the 2008 Architects In Albany Legislative Program listing the top legislative priorities facing AIANYS this Lobby Day, April 15th. The architects' involvement in the political process will be noted in Albany and in the districts, and our message is strong- Architecture affects the lives of every man, woman, and child.
Note: The 2008 Legislative Initiatives are being updated and will be available the week of March 24, 2008
Together, we can and do make a difference, not just on Lobby Day but throughout the session when AIANYS seeks the grassroots support of its members!
